Modify ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 V1.5V scan tool to read J1850 PWM vehicle

Modify ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 V1.5V scan tool to read J1850 PWM vehicle
I got myself an Elm327 V1.5 but I found that it will not work on J1850 VPW J1850 PWM protocol especial for most Fords. But it did work like a charm on cars.
My idea came from a post in mondeoklubpolska.pl/ forum. Thanks Atom from Poland. I got the post translated into English, then I tried it out on my 2001 MK3 duratec 1.8 and it works like a charm. So I make my new version.
I have to confirm that the method only fits for elm327 V1.5 as mine and I have no responsibility if your elm327 is blow up or broken.
Equipment needs:
Screw driver
Knife
Solder iron with very small bit and solder
Multimeter
About 10 mm of insulated small-gauge wire
Then do as follows:
1) Peel off the cover of the elm327 main unit and remove the four screws by using screw driver, take these out and set the box apart.
2) Check the elm327 inside is like this
3) You will notice that there is a PCB tack running between T5 and T2 there. Hook up a multimeter to check the continuity between the emitter of T5 and the emitter of T2 (on the side with two legs). If there is continuity, you should use the knife to cut between T2 and T5 as shown in red below.
4) Check between the emitters of T5 and T2 to make sure there is no continuity any more.
5) Solder a short length of wire between the emitter of T5 and the emitter of T1 or Pin1 of the output connector. Be carful not to apply too much heat to T5 and T1.
6) Again use the multimeter to test the continuity between T5 and Pin1 output connector. Ensure there is stable continuity.
7) Reassemble the elm327 main unit and try to test on J1850 PWM system.

How to disable backup beep with ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 scanner

How to disable backup beep with ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 scanner
I went to the dealer shop to disable the annoying backup beep that sounds continuously of my Prius V 2012, but the technician charged me $63. I am fed up with the annoying voice and also the super charge of this 2 minutes job.
Somebody may think a backup beep is a great feature. But I did not. Only problem is this beep is very loud and is only inside the car. It cannot be heard by those behind you as you would expect.
I got some clue on toyotanation club that a small elm327 can get this job done. I hooked up my newly ordered Blue color Viecar elm327 which support both computer and Android system.
Out to the car and plugged the Viecar V2.0 ELM327 device into the OBD port. Although it can be used both on computer and Android system, I would like to get this easy job done on my phone via Bluetooth. I need to download and install TORQUE software on Android device. After activate the Bluetooth on my phone, open Bluetooth setting, search Viecar 2.0 Bluetooth, enter password 0000. When the device was well communicated with Bluetooth, run software and come to the main menu to set some basic setting.
After get the device talk to ECU, Enter the main menu and then did some job as following:
Type and send: AT SH 7c0
Returns: OK
Type and send: 21ac
Returns: 61 AC 00 (00 means continuous reverse beep)
Type and send: 3bac40
Returns: 7F 3B 78
Returns: 7B AC (the job’s done)
Type and send: 21ac
Returns: 61 AC 40 (40 means only a single beep now)
I just successful turn off the backup beep of my vehicle; I am not sure whether it does the same or exactly the same processes of other vehicles. But I sure that elm327 do this job.

ELM327 OBD2 scan tool drain power problem solution

ELM327 OBD2 scan tool drain power problem solution

Problem:
Very often elm327 Bluetooth users will discover that when the elm327 scanner will draw power supply directly from the car’s OBD port, the indicator of the scanner stays illuminates and drain your battery even the car engine is off.
Reason:
The ELM327 scanners and other chipsets are designed to connect the power 5V. USB Bus power is 5V. For a few reasons though, most scanners use the constant battery line regulated to 5V instead of the 5V USB.
Possible solution:
Option 1:
1. Solder a jumper to the obdII chip and clip the vbatt line.
2. Cut the VBatt line in your obdII connector (Vehicle Side) which is pin 16. Connect Acc power. Now your OBDII reader will only run when the car is running and prevents any battery drain conditions.
3. Get an OBDII extension cable and soldier in a switch to the vbatt wire.

Option 2:
1. Use a relay to make it automatically turn on once the car is turned on.
2. Get an OBDII extension cable and hook up the power wire to the N/O (Normally open) relay contact.
3. Take a switched 12V acc power and an earth/ground wire to the coil of the relay.
Every time the car is turned on the switched 12v would power the relay coil, causing the N/O contact to “Close” allowing power to pass to the OBDII device. When the ignition is turned off the power is lost from the relay coil dropping out the contact.

How to obtain MPG value with Bluetooth elm327 scan tool?

How to project this function and improve its accuracy when  with elm327 Bluetooth scan tool.
1) Download Torque app on your Android phone or tablet and install it.
2) Open the app and come to the main function menu
3) Select “Setting”
4) Check “Faster Communication”
5) Check “Enhanced MPG Calculation” and this will slow down other sensors
6) Then check “Use Vehicle Fuel Level Sensor”.  It is very important, because the fuel used calculation is not accurate within Torque app.
7)  Exit the “Settings” and enter “Vehicle Profile”.
8) Find out “MPG Trim” and enter the trim value, like 1.27

You can find a good trim value by running the average MPG for an entire tank for both Torque and the car’s display. It’s consistently reporting some mpg better than getting at the pump. The formula is useful in this case.
1/(Car’s MPG) = X/(Torques MPG)
X = (Torques MPG)/(Car’s MPG) = Trim factor
Use your actual calculated MPG for (Car’s MPG), not the MFD numbers, or you’ll just be matching the optimistic numbers it gives. The more tanks and more times you run that equation the closer you can get. You can get kind of close but doing it for a trip but I find the idle time setting up torque and other factors make it less accurate.
There is also a setting called “OBD Speed Multiplier” that adjusts for non standard sized tires, if that applies to you.
You can not expect this $10 or so elm327 device to do much more than you want. After all, it beats the price.

How to setup WIFI elm327 DashCommand™ on iOS iPhone

This guide explains how to connect ELM327 WIFI to Windows (applies to any Windows version).
In order for ELM327 WIFI to work, you’ll need to change some settings of your wireless connection network.
And by doing this, you will no longer have access to your internet connection over WIFI. So the old settings will need to be restored when you have finished using your ELM327 WIFI. There’s no way around this. Just the way it is with some WIFI devices.
Step 1. Connect ELM327 WIFI to your car. Ignition should be on, so it gives power to ELM327 WIFI device.
Step 2: Go to your connection manager and connect to “WiFiOBD” or “OBDDevice” (whichever shows).
Then, right click on it, a menu will appear, select “Status”. The following window will appear:
Step 3:Click on “Properties”.
Change the connection’s TCP/IP setting by entering a static IP address.
Set the IP as:
192.168.0.11
And the subnet mask as:
255.255.255.0
The new settings are complete. Close all windows and return to your OBD software.
Inside your OBD software, set connection as WIFI interface, and put these settings:
Set the IP as:
192.168.0.10
And set Port Number as:
35000
Note: Depending on the WiFi interface manufacturer/merchant, the IP settings will not necessarily be the same as above. If this is the case, check the technical manual to find the right IP address to enter inside your OBD Software.
